Machine: Xtool S1 20W
The Good:
The machine works right out of the box with minimal setup and preforms decently well when using Xtool Creative Space.
The Bad:
The exhaust fan doesn't always do the best job of clearing smoke out of the enclosure, leading to inconsistent cutting performance when the laser is obstructed by smoke.
The linear bearings for the z-axis seem cheap and have a lot of play, leading to poor scoring performance. This is especially noticeable when using Lightburn software for some reason. Better quality bearings, or perhaps bronze, delrin or nylon bushings would likely be a better option.
The lower roller wheels for the y-axis do not engage with the with the track they're meant to ride on, allowing the whole x-axis gantry to rock back and forth. This compounds the performance issues of the z-axis linear bearings. It would have been nice if Xtool had built in some adjustment for these wheels like eccentric nuts commonly seen on 3D printers.
The honeycomb panel that Xtool provided is not sized very well. The travel limits of the x-axis don't allow you to align the laser with the top left corner or the bottom left corner of the honeycomb panel. This makes aligning workpieces more difficult, and makes the measure scales on the honeycomb mostly useless.
The laser spot size seems to be a lot larger than the advertised 0.08*0.06 mm.
The Neutral:
Xtool Creative Space is very easy to use, and seems like it would be great for beginners, but more advanced users will find that it lacks some key features that Lightburn has.
I was really hoping for better build quality from a machine that costs this much
I purchased the S1 to replace my D1 Pro as it seems much easier to use and love that it is fully enclosed. The White Unit looks hot.
Also glad it can be upgraded so later on i can get the feeder and 40W if i so choose.
I have had it for 3 weeks. Arrived in 4 days from ordering and setup was done same day. Have had no problems since and I am a first time laser user. Machine is so versatile and accurate. Amazing and excited to continue learning.
In the last couple of months we have sold our old equipment and replaced it with the F1 and 20w S1. To say that we are happy is an understatement. These machines have not only increased our productivity, but have given us the opportunity to expand our business. Thank you XTOOL, we sing your praises at every chance we get. Next on our wish list is the riser bed for our S1
