Works well. it's a comprehensive tool. Start up instruction is not well explained; for CXS icons location or function. Many of us are trying to bring our outdated business toolbox into the current century and are not tech fluent/coherent. The link to outside designs is useless to myself- a good basic series of tutorials on how to draw with vectors, combine, subtract, keep a library of projects etcetera would be better. MS Paint gave me a basic prior overview while waiting for my xtool to arrive.

Love my S140w, I purchased in October and have since added the 2watt IR laser, the rotary and conveyor. Each step has been very user friendly. I come from the crafting world and the transition was seamless. The picture included is a cutting board I have recently engraved!

I am a Maker, decades making a range of things, using cutting machines, heat presses, sewing machine, embroidery, etc. This is my first laser and the learning curve has been very fast. I purchased the S1 because of the reputation online for xTool's customer service as compared to similar devices. I knew I was going to do tumblers, etching anodized aluminum items, etching images, etc. So, I wanted a fine 10W laser for my first module. The rotary package was the perfect one for my needs now. I added the Fire Safety device for peace of mind.

So far, things have worked well, set up went well. I had to rely on youtube videos for some set up since the set up manual was hard to follow, without words, at times.

The XCS software is super easy to learn and use. I have learned to use Inkscape and other programs that are much harder. XCS is set up well and does everything I need. I do create my svg images in Inkscape and use ImagR to set up photos before importing them into XCS. If you want to create your won files, and they are a bit complicated you may wish to use something like Inkscape. You can create images in XCS but I have found some limitations that are more advanced. So far I have found no need to learn and use Lightburn.

I also purchased this laser because the modules are interchangable. That was also important to me, as I knew I would eventually want the 2W fibre modules and the 40W too, to make the most of this device.

No regrets. There is a learning curve. Be prepared to do a lot of testing. Everey new material needs a test to find out the right settings for your machine. Temperature, humidity, can effect settings. XCS has settings for most all types of materials and so far I have found they work well 85% of the time. You can VERY easy create test arrays in XCS...and fast. Save those test arrays so you have something to refer back to next time.

xTool Customer Service has been terrific to deal with too. I had two cables break before I could even use the machine. They sent me replacements right awsay and even sent a third for a spare, even though I had not asked for them to do so. That was wonderful.
