I’m a retired electrician, and a wood turner for many years. Due to the onset of cancer, which I believe is now beat, and osteoporosis. I am unable to stand for great lengths of time which needs to be done for wood turning. In looking for something else to do with my time, I discovered laser engraving and very much enjoy that pursuit. My demo room is my workshop which is situated in the garage of my home.
I am currently between two workshops. But I will have one room dedicated to demolition and another separate one for repairs.

Where to start? She has been running a creative business of some sort for well over 25 years and is a self-taught mistress of a sewing machine, learning when she was 12 on the first electric model Singer ever produced. That machine would sew through anything (including thumbs) and had one stitch, forward and fast.

Taking over the large garage her XTool machines proudly sit in their spaces of honour. A special new garage door was installed to accommodate the venting and offers superior insulation to the harsh Canadian winters.

F2 currently works exclusively with xTool Studio (formerly XCS). It does not support LightBurn at this time.
xTool Studio runs on Windows and macOS, and combines design, layout, parameter settings, and machine control in one beginner-friendly app.
This is the best Diode + IR Laser machine I ever bought, I have a small engraving business and this machine is helping me to increase my production by 40%. It is giving me alot of options and materials to work with, this machine exceeded my expectations.
I’ve been running the xTool F2 in a real working setup — not just hobby use — and I’ll say this straight up: this machine is a problem (in the best way possible).
The dual-laser setup (diode + IR) is where this thing separates itself. Being able to move between wood, coated metals, leather, and more without needing multiple machines has completely changed how I approach projects. I’m not wasting time swapping setups or second-guessing materials — I just run it.
The detail this machine can produce is honestly wild. I’ve pushed it into more artistic engraving styles — including bas-relief looks and high-detail portrait work — and it holds up. Clean lines, consistent burns, and way more control than I expected out of something this compact.
Speed-wise, it keeps up. For a portable unit, it doesn’t feel like a “light-duty” machine at all. I’ve used it on everything from small precision pieces to production-style runs, and it stays consistent.
Now — real talk — like any machine, there’s a learning curve if you want to push it beyond basic engraving. But once you dial in your settings, it becomes extremely reliable.
What really makes the F2 stand out for me is how it fits into a bigger workflow. I’m pairing it with DTF printing and custom design work through my brand, ShadowFax Custom Creations, and it gives me the ability to offer completely different product lines without needing a full shop of machines.
Bottom line:
If you’re just looking to casually engrave, it’ll do that easily.
But if you’re trying to actually build something — a business, a brand, real products — this machine has way more capability than people give it credit for.

This has a small footprint but it's perfect for my real estate business. I can make all sorts of unique marketing materials, well worth the price.
I am loving the Xtool F2 so far. I recommend the bundle with the rotary and the air purifier. They work fabulous together.
I upgraded to the F2 after a year of owning my F1. Having the camera function alone is what sold me. We will be taking this one with us to events now rather than the F1.
