Julia Mackenzie

Julia doesn't tend to put herself in the spotlight (thanks anxiety and agoraphobia) but many wonder who the face behind the business is!
Where to start? She has been running a creative business of some sort for well over 25 years and is a self-taught mistress of a sewing machine, learning when she was 12 on the first electric model Singer ever produced. That machine would sew through anything (including thumbs) and had one stitch, forward and fast.
Whether it’s digital design, sublimation printing, sewing, or laser work – Julia continues to perfect her craft and explore new creative outlets.
She is an extremely proud mom to one amazing kiddo. And a beard lover, hence being married to one of the most amazing beards (and men) around. He is very supportive of her 'side hustles' and you may get to see him time to time at one of her shows. After relocating to Orangeville in July 2024 – she can’t imagine living anywhere else!
Taking over the large garage her XTool machines proudly sit in their spaces of honour. A special new garage door was installed to accommodate the venting and offers superior insulation to the harsh Canadian winters.

xTool MetalFab Laser Welder 1200w (Pro Version)
xTool MetalFab Laser Welder 800w (Starter Version)
xTool MetalFab CNC Cutter

FAQ

xTool MetalFab can cut/stainless steel, aluminum, brass, carbon steel, galvanized sheet, titanium, nickel alloy, magnesium.

Welding and cutting capabilities:

  • The 1200W welder can weld up to 5mm stainless steel/carbon steel, while the 800W model handles up to 4mm.
  • The 1200W welder can cut (handheld cutting) up to 5mm stainless steel/carbon steel, while the 800W model handles up to 3mm.

When paired with a CNC cutting platform:

  • 1200W: Burr-free cuts for 5mm stainless steel, 4mm aluminum, 3mm brass, 10mm carbon steel/galvanized sheet. Cut Max. 12mm carbon steel with dross.
  • 800W: Burr-free cuts for 4mm stainless steel, 2mm aluminum, 2mm brass, 8mm carbon steel/galvanized sheet.

Design differences:

  • The 1200W welder includes a free wire feeder, while the 800W model has a built-in wire feeding mechanism and is lighter in weight.

1. Nozzle: First, we recommend using the double-layer nozzle set (add-on): For carbon steel ≤8mm, use the D1.2 nozzle; for carbon steel >8mm, use the D1.0 nozzle.

2. Gas: We recommend using 99.99% oxygen at 0.05-0.06 MPa (for 1200w version) for cutting thick carbon steel. Do not use air, nitrogen, or argon, as they will lead to a lot of dross.

3.Pattern: We recommend avoiding intricate designs when cutting thick metal. The minimum gap of the cutting pattern should not be smaller than the metal thickness. For 10mm steel, circles and rectangles can achieve the best results.

4. Must-Know Notes: Continuous cutting of thick carbon steel may lead to overheating, which can affect normal processing and require manual cooling (Continuous cutting of about 15min for 10mm steel for reference. The actual time may vary from use, thickness, etc.)

Welding: Nitrogen or argon gas with purity above 99.99% is suitable for most metals. The required welding pressure ranges from 0.1–0.2 MPa, with a gas flow rate of 15–30 L/min (argon is required for welding titanium alloys).

Cutting: Compressed air, nitrogen/argon (purity >99.99%), or oxygen are commonly used as shielding gases.

  • xTool air compressor and air dryer provide stable compressed air, enabling burr-free cuts at 0.6 MPa for 4mm stainless steel, 4mm aluminum, 3mm copper, 1mm carbon steel, and galvanized steel (1200W laser) when paired with xTool SaveGasNozzle. This setup significantly reduces costs compared to gas cylinders.
  • Nitrogen/argon (at 1.2 MPa) can achieve burr-free cuts for the same materials (1200W).
  • Oxygen is primarily used for cutting carbon steel and galvanized steel above 1mm thick. With a dual-layer nozzle and focal extension tube at 0.06–0.07 MPa, it can cut up to 10mm carbon steel/galvanized steel (1200W).

Cleaning: Compressed air is sufficient, but nitrogen or argon is recommended for brighter, oxidation-free results.

Yes, xTool MetalFab supports engraving on stainless steel, galvanized steel, titanium, and coated metals (e.g., anodized aluminum). It supports vector engraving, vector filling, and bitmap filling. Just use XCS for one-click parameter setup!

Note: To protect the laser, avoid engraving on high-reflectivity metals like copper.

The camera-driven workflow will significantly enhance your metalwork efficiency and minimize material waste.

xTool MetalFab integrates dual high-definition cameras for intelligent metal processing-advantages that products without cameras cannot match:

The 16MP Panoramic camera captures full-bed imaging for precise positioning and enables Smart Nesting function with up to 98.7% material use. The close-range camera enables micron-level precision for secondary/fine processing through localized high-res imaging.

xTool MetalFab operates on the XCSSoftware, designed for intuitive control and streamlined workflows:

It features the Material EasySet Library with100+ pre-optimized parameters for 30+ materials. You only need to select the material you want to cut, and all parameters can be applied with a single click. It also supports Auto Lead-in Lines, Automatic Path Optimization, which significantly improves cutting efficiency.

We have designed xTool MetalFab to ensure a smooth and simple user experience, so you don’t need to worry about lacking experience—you can get started in just five minutes!

It features the 550g ultra-light integrated welding gun which enables a 5-second quick-release. The 8-Inch Smart Touchscreen has 108+ built-in parameters for one-click use.

xTool MetalFab can weld up to 5mm stainless steel or carbon steel, and we have passed SGS welding quality tests, so you can rest assured about its performance and reliability!

Yes, we are building a global localized service network, with established local service teams in the U.S. and Europe. You can access:

  • 24/7 online support (via email, live chat, or phone).
  • 1-on-1 dedicated warranty assistance.
  • Demo room reservations for in-person machine testing and material trials.

You can access the after-sales policy, shipping policy, warranty policy via the link.

The MetalFab laser welder operates at a voltage of 200-240V.

The 1200W model requires a circuit of 21A or higher, with a maximum power output of up to 4200W, while the 800W model requires a circuit of 15A or higher, with a maximum power output of 3000W (for Europe, a standard 230V-16A circuit can support the 800W model without modifications).

The CNC cutter is compatible with dynamic voltages of 100-240V.

For the US/CA, we provide NEMA-50P or NEMA-30P plugs. For other regions, we offer power cables that need to be installed by a qualified electrician. Please refer to the article for specific power requirements.
